The Fujifilm X100VI is the sixth iteration of Fujifilm's classically-styled large sensor compact. A 40MP X-Trans sensor, in-body stabilization and 6.2K video are among the updates. I'm sure the more manufacturers know we care about this, they may implement EVF/LCD's that do support other refresh rates than the economical run-of the-mill 60Hz panels. However, one of the benefits you gain for this weight is pretty rugged construction. If you're capturing video, it's this sustained write rate that you need to worry about and 4K can easily exceed this figure. The obvious advantages are that, especially if you already shoot Canon, you may well already have the equipment you need to start shooting.

Blackmagic RAW

You can see the duration of your clips, it turns red when recording, lets you monitor timecode and also features status indicators for time of day timecode and more. Blackmagic Video Assist lets you record all standard formats and frame rates. You can record in SD and HD, up to 1080p60 on all models, and on Video Assist 12G HDR models you can record all the way up to 2160p60. You can’t even turn off noise reduction on an FX3, whereas this Pyxis seems to be a full-blown cine camera.

When connected to the 12V DC input you get continuous power or it can be run off of dual Sony compatible NP‑F rechargeable batteries. Blackmagic Video Assist use high capacity L‑Series batteries and when connected to AC power, can be charged while the Video Assist is still being used. That means you never have to turn the Video Assist monitor off while you’re on a shoot! For all models, the intelligent battery management will use the battery with less charge first, ensuring one battery is drained of its power before using any of the power from the next battery. This has been built from the ground up with a new full-frame sensor offering 16-stops of dynamic range, and offers much more adaptability than has been possible with previous Ursa model.

Full Size, Durable Connections that Work with Standard Cables

With Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR, the battery indicator at the top right of the HUD will show battery life remaining and will say "AC’ when plugged into mains power. This means images always maintain unprecedented resolution and quality for color, keying, compositing, reframing, stabilization and tracking in HD, 4K or 6K. The built in LCD on Blackmagic PYXIS is more than just a simple status display. It’s a 4″ high resolution HDR touchscreen that is also perfect for monitoring and reviewing shots on set. Its full HD resolution means customers can frame and focus their shots without needing to carry around a bulky external monitor.

In addition to the built in LUTs, you can also load and store your own 33‑point 3D LUTs, up to a total of 25 on the 7” model and 20 on the 5” model. The Blackmagic PYXIS features two built in CFexpress card recorders, and a USB-C expansion port for recording direct to external flash media disks or an SSD. CFexpress media are more durable and faster than even older media so are perfect for recording full resolution, 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files. Plus, with dual CFexpress slots, customers can keep recording because customers can hot swap full cards without stopping.

Other features include a new trim window, fixed play head (reducing zooming and scrolling), a window that makes changing audio attributes faster and more. Gold mount compatible battery plate with Molex connector for attaching third party batteries to URSA cameras. Optional PL lens mount which features contact pins for compatibility with Cooke’s i/Technology protocol allowing lens information to be saved as metadata and used in software like DaVinci Resolve. Empty 5 bay Fairlight studio console chassis that can be populated with various faders, channel controls, edit and LCD monitors. Empty 4 bay Fairlight studio console chassis that can be populated with various faders, channel controls, edit and LCD monitors.

High resolution viewfinder for URSA range of cameras includes full HD OLED display and true glass optics for perfect focus. Histogram displays are familiar to graphic designers and camera operators and show the distribution of white to black information and how close the detail is to being clipped. Black video is shown on the left of the display, and whites are shown on the right. All video should usually be found between the 0% and 100% intervals of the histogram display.

I found I was getting minutes of capture out of two fully charged batteries. The batteries can be hot-swapped while recording, in the unlikely event of you needing a single clip to last longer than that. Unlike the Atomos recorders, which tend to use Sony L-series-style batteries and write to SSD drives, the Blackmagic uses Canon LP-E6 batteries and writes to SD cards. This use of more photographer-friendly formats has both advantages and disadvantages. Tapping the storage icons at the bottom of the heads up display will bring up details and status information about your cards and attached USB-C drives.

You could add a Blackmagic or even Atomos recorder and have a much more usable interface for that kind of thing. But this Pyxis will no doubt have a good UI built in, with the proper English industry terms for everything, etc. A lot of people will use it like that and then plug the drive into a computer to edit directly off the same drive.
